What's up with Partial Circumcisions?

I have mentioned on this blog several times the importance of removing the entire foreskin properly, and leaving the glans completely uncovered for health and comfort.

Yet people sometimes have their foreskin only shortened, not removed.

One justification for a partial circumcision is if someone has phimosis but he does not wish to be circumcised it may be enough to remove only part of the foreskin to correct the medical problem. Someone in that situation would think of himself as still uncircumcised.

But some circumcisions e.g. in the US and the UK leave the patient with so much loose skin that it covers most of the glans creating a look that does not even look circumcised. Yet a person in that situation would think of himself as circumcised.

So two partially circumcised guys with shortened foreskins that look the same can have completely different ideas about their circumcision status depending on cultural preferences. One may think of it that he had his phimosis fixed while avoiding circumcision and the other may think of himself as having a very loose circumcision.

So if you have half of your foreskin removed you can consider yourself either circumcised or uncircumcised depending on what is convenient according to the local customs.
