Don’t Be a Wuss

Many men who want to get a circumcision keep postponing it because they obsess about how painful it is going to be.
First of all you are unlikely to experience any pain at all because you are going to be under anesthesia and possibly chock full of pain killers for days.
Yet some people who answered the question about their favorite circumcision method would consider getting it done without anesthetics.
I am not sure that getting circumcised without anesthetics as an adult is even an option in most developed countries (at least if you want an actual doctor to perform your circumcision – oddly enough it is considered to be acceptable, at least in North America, to circumcise an infant (who does not want it) without anesthetics but not an adult who actually wishes to have the full experience.
I was going to comment that modern freehand methods take anywhere between 20 to 50 minutes (depending on how much your doctor likes his work) and possibly hundreds of small cuts. To go through that without anesthetics would be excruciatingly painful.
But I have just watched videos of people getting crazy body modifications, such as getting intricate designs branded into them with a red hot iron over a several hour long period and suddenly enduring half an hour of cutting with a cold knife did not sound too bad.
I still highly doubt that a reputable doctor would be willing to do a free hand circumcision without anesthetics, just too many things that can go wrong. You really do not want to get nerves severed or even worse your entire dick accidentally amputated because of an involuntary twitch.
Traditional circumcision  methods, that for millennia were (and in some places still are) done without anesthetics, are usually very quick, some remove the foreskin with a single cut. Techniques that use a shield or clamp are usually safer in this regard as the device protects the penis from getting cut in unintended places.
As body modifications go circumcision is pretty tame. With all the craziness invented every day you could be getting your eyeballs pierced so in comparison slicing a little bit of skin off your dick does not even sound all that painful.
Main stream society in western countries regards circumcision as a medical procedure so the expectation is that it should be performed under anesthesia and it should be completely painless.
But traditionally circumcision was either a religious ceremony or a rite of passage often a requirement to transition into adulthood. Pain was seen as an essential part of the process, often with a spiritual significance.
Even if you don’t live in such a culture if you want to get a circumcision just to look cool in front of your peers, or to look more attractive to potential mates you have to admit that it is more like getting a tattoo or piercing than having other types or surgery.
If  one compares circumcision to other traditional body modifications done in similar context around the world, or modern body modifications inflicted on clients in body art studios in the developed world, it really seems to be somewhere in the middle in terms of pain during the procedure or during the healing process.
It certainly heals in a few weeks rather than taking many months to heal as some complicated piercings do.
So, if you want a circumcised dick don’t be a wuss and go for it.

  1. I put off getting circumcised, partly out of embarrassment at wanting to be circumcised but also out of fear of how much it would hurt and how long before I could resume sex.

I’m here to tell you neither are true, I just wish I’d know that 20 years earlier

    1. Circumcision pain is overrated. Beside in most first world countries you get a lot of anesthetics before they cut you.
